Texas violinist dies after medical crisis during performance
BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - A violinist for a Texas symphony has suffered an apparent heart attack during a weekend performance and died despite the efforts of doctors in the audience who rushed to help him.
Sixty-year-old Yu Zhao Gu was performing Saturday with the Symphony of Southeast Texas in Beaumont when he was stricken.
He was sitting beside his wife and stand partner, Ying Zhao, when he fell from his seat during the symphony's final performance of the season.
He and his wife, both from China, joined the symphony more than 20 years ago and lived in Houston. They also performed with other regional symphonies.
Fellow performers described him as kind and supportive.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, who's a student at the University of Houston.
