Traffic Delays Expected During SPI Race
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – South Padre Island officials are warning drivers to expect traffic delays during the Summer Longest Causeway Run & Fitness Walk.
The event will be taking place Saturday June 3 starting at 8 a.m. The estimated time for temporary closures will be between 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Several city departments including South Padre Island police will be supervising the race.
Participants of the run/walk will be traveling northbound on Padre Boulevard starting from Schlitterbahn, across the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway and will end at the Port Isabel Event and Cultural Center.
All vehicle traffic going northbound from the Isla Blanca Park toll booth on Park Road 100 will be rerouted to an inside lane by following markers such as cones and barrels.
All traffic exiting Sea Ranch Marina will be using the inside lane.
Eastbound traffic beginning at Garcia Street and State Highway 100 in Port Isabel will also be directed to the inside lane.
Police are asking drivers to maintain a speed of 20 miles per hour along the Queen Isabella Causeway. All traffic exiting the bridge will continue on the inside lane heading south until they reach the Cameron County toll booth.
A tail-escort of emergency vehicles will be available all throughout the event as well as electronic signage for motorists.
