BROWNSVILLE – The capital murder trial of a man accused of killing a Border Patrol agent is underway.

It’s been nearly four years since Border Patrol Agent Javier Vega Jr. was shot and killed in Willacy County.

Vega’s dad testified Gustavo Tijerina, who’s in the country illegally, and a second suspect, Ismael Hernandez Vallejo, got off an SUV they were on and opened fire on his son, fatally striking him.

Willacy County prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case.
