EDINBURG - The Vaqueros are back in the post-season for the second straight year.

In 2018, they played an away contest at New Orleans, and lost.

This time, they'll play at home on wednesday night in the cit-tournament against grambling state.

"Super proud," said Johhny Cornograc. "Obviously, coming to this school, before us it had been forever since the team made a post-season tournament. Doing it back to back is unheard of you know. It's awesome, super fun."

"They're very excited to play at home, especially the first post-season game here at the fieldhouse," said Lew Hill. "I just hope they're excited as we are and come out support these young men. These men play a great brand of basketball all year."

UTRGV has won 19 games this year. Something they hadn't achieved since 2002.

Last week, they won their first-ever contest at the WAC tournament, when knocked off Cal-State Bakersfield in the WAC tournament quarterfinals.

"Shows that coach hill is about growth," said Tyson Smith. "He's all about prospering and building a foundation. building something special here at UTRGV. He prides himself on that and you can really see that through our play."

The Vaqueros have clamped down defensively. They rank third in the nation in steals with 313.

They'll look to apply the pressure and win their CIT opener against a Grambling State squad that won 17 games this year.

Wednesday's game tips off at 7pm.
