SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – A crowd of people showed up at South Padre Island to bid farewell to several sea turtles rescued during last week’s cold snap.

They were released Tuesday morning back in the Gulf. The turtles are considered endangered.

Sea Turtle, Inc. Director Jeff George says some of the animals did not survive.

“Of the 20 that came in alive, we lost two of them to their injuries. The other two are going through extensive rehab. Hopefully they’ll be released later on in the spring,” said George.

George says help will be available again when another cold front arrives.
