A Valley nonprofit held a protest Thursday aimed at bringing awareness to what members say is a need for a pathway to citizenship in Democrat’s proposed trillion-dollar social spending and climate bill.

La Union Del Pueblo Entero’s (LUPE) protest, Lighting the Way to Action, was about drawing attention to cases like those of farmworker Mari Arillas, who left her home country to escape violence and hasn’t seen her family in over a decade.

“I haven’t seen my son in 16 years,” she said. “All he wants is for me to be at his graduation. For once in his life."

LUPE organizers say they want Democrats in Congress to look at the stories of the undocumented. Along with the protest, LUPE members wrote letters to Congress asking them for a pathway to citizenship.
