GRANJENO – Caught between real life and policy are people who live in small towns along the river dividing two countries.

Some say what’s missing is a sense of security, a place where neighbors call out to neighbors.

That’s changed in recent years.

People who cross the border illegally find unique places to hide.

They leave evidence of foot pathways and makeshift forts of grass and trees near residences.
