LA JOYA – La Joya ISD has training programs for students to help keep them out of trouble.

Some of those programs include officers going door-to-door visiting with families, and even organizing fundraisers for the needy.

La Joya ISD police say students who’ve been caught working with criminal organization tell them they’ve paid students up to $500 to move their illegal loads.

“This year, from my professional knowledge, at least six that I've got calls from local entities that they’ve stopped undocumented people inside a vehicle where a teenager was driving,” explains La Joya ISD Police Chief Raul Gonzalez. “And the teenager happened to be one of our students.”

Gonzalez says they plan to work with U.S. Border Patrol on bringing awareness to the students.
