WESLACO – A Rio Grande Valley woman is working to help pets and their owners affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Carol Pena said her mission in life is to help all living things. She’s working with a group of nonprofits to accept donations like kennels, dog and cat food and anything that can be used to help those in need.

“They have their animals. They don’t have kennels. So a lot of these shelters are turning away the animals that aren’t in kennels,” she said. “They cannot be there, they are not in kennels. So, all these people are literally staying on the street, because their animals are their families to them.”

Pena said she and the non-profit organizations she’s working with are looking to fill multiple vans and deliver the supplies.
