EDINBURG –UTRGV men’s basketball coach Lew Hill and his staff held a camp inside the Fieldhouse to give youth players a taste of the collegiate game.

“In AAU they’re just playing and going at one another, “said Hill. “But you need the fundamentals before you play five-on-five.”

Hill adds that working alongside division 1 coaches and players gave the dozens of campers in attendance a unique perspective on the effort it takes to play at the next level.

"Understanding the speed of the game,” said Hill. “We play fast anyway but understanding the structure of college basketball and how in high school sometimes you walk around."

Players from the Valley, Houston, Austin, and even Louisiana took part in the camp. Coach Hill’s goal is to bring in more players next year.
