EDINBURG - There's a new man on deck for UTRGV baseball. Derek Matlock is the program's new head coach... Matlock comes to UTRGV from West Virginia University.. He was a pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the Mountaineers of the Big 12.. Matlock is pumped up to be back in Texas..He began his career as a high school coach in the late 90s.  Since then, he's made stops at TCU, Texas State, and West Virginia.  His mission now is to turn around a program that hasn't been to the conference tournament in three years.  Matlock says, "Texas is my recruiting base.  Great recruits will give us a better chance to win.  I think I can improve the program in the area of recruiting."  Matlock replaces Manny Mantrana, who had a nine-year run with the Vaqueros.  This story is reported on video by CHANNEL 5's Joel Villanueva.
