Vehicle Flood-Damaged at Tow Yard, Man Fights for Compensation
WESLACO – A Weslaco man lost his truck due to a disputed towing fee.
Fernando Garcia was driving near Airport Drive and Frontage Road when an accident left his truck damaged in the road. He says he was faced with a towing fee of $390.
“Normally, if the vehicle is going to stay in the middle of the roadway and is then inoperable, the police department will make the call and will contact a wrecker service that is in rotation,” says Erick Hernandez, public information officer with the Weslaco Police Department.

KRGV’s Valerie Gonzalez explains an ordinance was issued by the city, which establishes a set fee of $150 and an applicable fee of $45 if special equipment is used.
Garcia is still fighting compensation after June’s floods damaged his truck while in the tow yard.
If you are overcharged when your vehicle is towed, you can visit the police department and file a report, which will then go to the municipal court judge.
If found violated, the towing company can be fined and taken out of the city’s rotation.
