WESLACO – An army veteran general is calling on all construction workers in the Rio Grande Valley, to go work in Port Aransas to help rebuild the town.

Star Locke says he lost two homes, one in Aransas Pass the other in Port Aransas during Hurricane Harvey.

He said rebuilding his homes is the least of his worries, but he says plenty of other folks in those areas need homes.

Locke is looking hire 10,000 construction workers, to earn between $14 and $25.

Even if he gets the workers he needs, he said the devastated areas will take years to rebuild.

“We don’t have close to enough people to do this, we need 10-15 thousand people short. We need talented construction workers and people that can move up there and help us rebuild it’s going to be a two to three year project anyhow, people can demo. They can do repair work, carpenters, trim carpenters, sheet rock, electricians subcontractors,” said Locke.

Applications can be picked up at the American Legion Post 205 in Harlingen. Those interested, do not have to be veterans.

Locke said having workers from the Valley, go to the coastal bend to work, will also have a positive economic impact on the Valley.
