MCALLEN – A crime report done by an FBI program shows violent crimes in the city of McAllen are up.

According to FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program, violent crime numbers rose by nearly 40 percent last year, but property crimes dropped.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said the report is a reflection of the cases their department responded to last year. He said they tried focusing on the decreases in crime.

“In 2016, our crime volume dropped by 2.2 percent and our crime rate dropped by 4.3 percent,” he said.

Texas’ Department of Public Safety and the FBI also received the summary of the results.
