Though it was many years ago, veteran Jan Hartzog said it’s still important to remember the thousands who were killed.

“This is a day that should never ever be forgotten. Unfortunately, most of our Pearl Harbor day survivors are gone,” Hartzog said.

Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez said it means the world to him to hold this event every year.

“It’s also a time to remember the valor of people, and how the country got together, to fight an evil enemy,” Judge Cortez said.
