BROWNSVILLE –Residents of a Cameron County RV park won’t have to worry about their water service being shut off, at least for now.

Last month, multiple tenants from Rio Park on Boca Chica Blvd showed CHANNEL 5 NEWS a letter from the property owner notifying them he was to increase their water bill to $300.

They said they were told the amount would have to be paid or water service would be shut off.

Through the course of our investigation, we learned from the water company that the owner of the park was delinquent by thousands of dollars in payments and he owed the money by Feb. 3.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke with the manager at El Jardin Water Supply Corp. on Monday. He tells us the owner made a partial payment this weekend and provided a postdated check that can be cashed Friday.

Due to the necessity of water, the company’s board has agreed to leave the water on for those living at Rio Park, as long as the owner continues to make payments toward his balance.

However, the manager cautioned that another large bill is anticipated on Feb. 15.

TCEQ acknowledged that they are providing technical assistance to the Cameron County Health Department in regards to the park.

Count on us to continue bringing you the latest on this situation.
