WESLACO – City officials in Weslaco are cracking down on illegal dumping.

After June’s floods, the city put dumpsters in various locations to help those get rid of flood-damaged items. When the dumpsters were removed, residents continued leaving trash behind in those areas.

The city is in the process of cleaning up dump sites and will be placing signs which read ‘No Dumping Allowed – Fines up to $1,000’.

KRGV’s John Paul Barajas spoke with Weslaco Health Official Joe Pedraza about the issue.

Pedraza explains there are about 15 to 20 signs warning residents about illegal dumping.

He hopes to have all of Weslaco cleaned up by the end of the month.
