Weslaco is Proclaimed a Purple Heart City
WESLACO – Weslaco is now a “Purple Heart City” after a military son’s efforts.
Mario Ybarra Junior dedicates his life to honoring his father who was killed while serving in Vietnam.
After serving four years in the Marines, Mario Ybarra Senior was killed while trying to provide medical help to his comrades.
Ybarra Junior nominated the city of Weslaco to honor his father and other Weslaco veterans.
He stood beside other veterans and their families as Weslaco made the unveiling.
