WESLACO - Several Weslaco residents said they’ve been requesting internet access in their subdivision for years.

Cornerstone Meadow Estates is located south of Westgate Dr. in Weslaco. The subdivision’s layout is broken up in three phases.

Homeowners living in the third phase of property said they’ve waited for years to get answers about accessing internet service.

Weslaco homeowner Mike Givilancz said they tried to contact their homeowners association for answers.

“We’ve tried for the past nine to ten years to get service for internet high speed and the fiber optic lines. And they’ve told us that they don’t have access to our street,” he said. “They said they’re going to bring out a surveyor to come survey the land, and we haven’t got a response back from them as far as whether it’s feasible or not.”

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to the subdivision’s homeowners association to find out what the issue is. Cornerstone Meadow Estates Homeowner’s Association vice president Alfredo Aguilera said they are currently working to get the lines installed.

“The issue was that the last street was the final phase of the subdivision, and all internet lines were put before that final phase,” he said.

Aguilera said they’re negotiating with Verizon Wireless to add more service to houses in the final phase and lower the service fee for residents.

Givilancz said he hopes a resolution is reached soon. He said a new internet service will allow them to save more money.

Aguilera said it would cost up to $9,000 to install the fiber optic lines on their block.
