Weslaco Works to Receive Grant for Recycling Program
WESLACO – Officials from the city of Weslaco believe their presentation before the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council scored well on Tuesday. The city is trying to get a grant of $30,000 for its recycling program.
Now, city officials will have until Feb. 28 to learn if they receive the money.
Weslaco Public Works Director Pete Garcia says he and other Weslaco officials plan to use the $30,000 for a new trailer for residents to drop off materials to be recycled.
He says the rest of the money will go toward an education program at the Weslaco Nature Center.
The LRGVDC will issue grants totaling $130,000 to different cities or regions in the Valley.
Other cities or regions that gave presentations to the LRGVDC on Tuesday include South Padre Island, Mission, Port Isabel, San Benito, San Juan, Hidalgo County Precinct 4 and Cameron County.
