ELSA-----One man was injured after a shooting in Elsa Saturday night.

"I thought they were firecrackers," Rafael Rodriguez, a witness, said.

Rafael Rodriguez said he and a group of others were working in a field just feet away from where a man was shot.

"We were just working here, welding, and I was weed eating and everything. All of a sudden, I heard shots being fired," Rodriguez said.

Elsa Police Chief Primitivo Rodriguez said the shooting happened between 6 and 6:30pm.

"By the time I turned around, the cars were gone and the ambulance came," Rodriguez said.

Chief Rodriguez said the suspect and victim exchanged words before the suspect fired his weapon, and fled the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for his gunshot wound to the shoulder.

The witness says he confused a loud generator with fireworks at first.

"We had it on, so that's why the shots didn't sound so loud," said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez said they came back today to finish the work they were not able to do last night.

He said he isn't surprised to witness the shooting.

"You never know. It's a crazy world. It happens everywhere, so it could happen in your neighborhood," said Rodriguez.

Chief Rodriguez said they hope to catch the suspect soon.

Police said the suspected shooter is driving a white F-150 single cab truck with a tool box.
