EDINBURG - A death inside a Cameron County jail is bringing back memories for a local woman who lost her brother while he was an inmate at the same detention center.

Yolanda Perez-Pilgrim says her brother Ernesto Perez Jr. was an inmate at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in 2008 for failure to pay child support.

"It was horrific, my brother was getting ready to get out," says Perez-Pilgrim.

She says Ernesto died of head trauma.

Perez-Pilgrim says the news of another inmate dying at the same detention center is bringing back bad memories.

Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio says inmate Gabriel Angulo Rivera died Monday morning at Valley Regional Medical Center.

According to the authorization for medical examination report from the Justice of Peace, Rivera died at 8:00 a.m.

In the report it states the circumstances of his death “appear to have suffered several head traumas which led to cardiac arrest”.
