A family wants answers after they said they paid for a headstone for their father's grave that has yet to be installed.

Zelda Jauregui’s father is buried at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. The headstone that was bought for him from another company was delivered, but Jauregui said she is still waiting for the installation to go through.

“I said, ‘Why hasn't the headstone been placed’ and she told me, ‘Well, we've had a lot of people out, there's been a lot of funerals, and really it fell through the cracks,’" Jauregui said.

The general manager at Del Angel Funeral Homes - which oversees this cemetery – referred Channel 5 News to the company's headquarters, which provided the following statement.

“It is always our mission to treat every family we are privileged to serve with care and compassion. For several reasons, including staffing shortages, there have been delays in the placement of some headstones. The length of time is not up to our families’ standards, nor is it up to our standards. We are working diligently to ensure that we get headstones placed so that those resting in our cemetery may be fully and properly honored.”

The funeral home said they're working "diligently" to get headstones placed, but could not give a timeline on when the headstone would be installed.
