Cameron Co. Beach Closure Plans for Tropical Storm Franklin
UPDATE (8/11): Cameron County has reopened three beach access areas north of South Padre Island.
Beach Access 5, 6 and Boca Chica Beach are now open to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – Cameron County officials are monitoring the currents on South Padre Island beaches.
With Tropical Storm Franklin moving inland, Cameron County emergency manager Tom Hushen said they’ll be keeping a close eye to determine if beach closures are necessary.
The main threat to beach goers would be rip currents.
If beaches are closed, they will be blocked off by barricades.
Anyone caught trespassing could face a fine.
