City of McAllen: Hotel and tourism revenue hit record highs in 2021

The city of McAllen is celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week after its hotel and tourism revenue hit record highs in 2021.
According to McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos, the city generated $99.7 million in revenue from the hotel and tourism industry last year.
In 2020 and 2021, McAllen had one of the highest hotel occupancy in the nation, according to Visit McAllen interim Vice President Alex Arévalo.
"We use our hotels as a measure of a healthy tourist economy, I'm happy to report that numbers continue to be record-breaking," Arévalo said. “In 2021, McAllen had the highest hotel occupancy the city has ever had at 75%.”
Villalobos said hotel revenue will support the creation of more than 1,500 jobs.
