Confirmed Mumps Case May Have Originated in Mission

MISSION – The Hidalgo County Health Department notified city leaders about one confirmed mumps case that may have originated in Mission.
On Wednesday, we reported one confirmed case at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley; now county health staffers say the university may not be the source.
KRGV’s Taylor Winkel spoke with the chief administrative officer for the health department.
One case of mumps in confirmed in the Valley – another five possible cases are under investigation.
The county is not revealing where they believe the source of the mumps virus to be; the county was there as the city of Mission called for a special emergency meeting “in the best interest of the citizens” according to Mayor Armando O’Cana.
