Counties Plan to Split Cost For Mile 3 East Road Repairs
NEAR MERCEDES – Cameron County officials said residents living along a two-county bumpy road could soon see repairs.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS reported about the residents’ concerns last November. Mile 3 East is split down the center line between Hidalgo and Cameron Counties, leaving both counties to fix their respective half.
We reached out to Cameron County Precinct 4 to find out what could be done. The office responded to our request on Wednesday.
“It’s not a difficult task. It’s just making sure we have a proper indication of what side belongs to Cameron and what side belongs to Hidalgo County,” Cameron County Precinct 4 Commissioner Gus Ruiz said.
Ruiz said they would need to enter into an inter-local agreement. He said the agreement comes from state statues that legally allow state entities to work together.
There is currently an inter-local agreement in place for both counties specifically for the south side of Mile 3 East. Ruiz said Cameron County voted to enter the inter-local agreement with Hidalgo County to fix the road.
Ruiz said they will be sending the proposal over to Hidalgo County so they can put the same agreement on their agenda for a vote. If approved, both counties can begin to repair Mile 3 E Road.
