DACA Renewal Deadline Approaches Thursday
WESLACO – Qualifying Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals recipients have a short deadline to submit their renewal paperwork.
The deadline is on Thursday, Oct. 5. However, the paperwork must arrive by that day.
This means submissions must be put in the mail Tuesday night or Wednesday during the day.
The fee for the renewal is about $500, but that doesn’t guarantee the renewal.
“So those are the two biggest requirements: that you have not left the country improperly and come back in, and that you do not have any criminal charges pending. Because, if you do, there is a very high likelihood that you will be disqualified from the program,” said immigration attorney Alex Martinez.
Martinez said fees for attorney’s filing the paperwork can range in the hundreds. His office is offering those services free of charge through Wednesday.
