DPS: 2-Year-Old Dies after Head-On Collision Near La Blanca
NEAR LA BLANCA – Charges are pending on the driver involved in an early morning accident that killed a 2-year-old child on Sunday.
DPS troopers said four others, including another child, were also injured in the wreck.
The crash happened on Monte Cristo Road north of La Blanca Sunday around 4:30 a.m.
We’re told a Ford and a Nissan SUV collided on Monte Cristo Road, east of La Blanca Road. According to troopers, a man driving a Ford was heading east on Monte Cristo Road, when he veered into the westbound lane and hit the Nissan.
A man, woman, the 2-year-old and another boy were in the Nissan. The man driving the Nissan was airlifted to McAllen Medical Center. The rest of the Nissan passengers, as well as the driver of the Ford, were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The toddler, who was identified as Acel Cuellar of Pharr, later died from his injuries.
On Tuesday, the child hospitalized after the crash was released. The woman is still listed in critical condition.
