EDINBURG – No driver’s license? No problem! On Saturday certain driver’s license offices will be open throughout the Rio Grande Valley for those who have no form of voter identification.

Hilda Ann Salinas from the Hidalgo County Elections Office said there are several forms of voter identification.

"Texas ID card, of course, your license to carry a handgun, as well as United States military identification card,” Salinas listed, “United States citizenship certificate with a photograph containing a photograph as well as your United States passport."

Those are just some of the valid forms of voter identification.

If someone doesn’t own any one of types of identification and can't reasonably obtain one, there are several options for them, including an election identification certificate otherwise known as an E.I.C.

"It's an election identification card specifically to go and cast your ballot," said Salinas.

She said this certificate can be picked up through any Department of Public Safety station and is a free form of identification once a person fills out a short application.

"You do need to have proof of citizenship to go and obtain one. You do need to have some sort of documentation," explained Salinas.

You must also be a Texas resident, 17 years of age or older and currently not possess any other form of voter ID to apply.

Only certain driver’s license offices in the Valley will be open for this type of certificate to be given out on Saturday.

Cameron and Hidalgo counties’ office will be participating in this DPS event. A full list of participating Texas DPS office locations can be found here or below:
