ROMA – A local family is concerned an illegal peyote seizure could hurt business.
Peyote is an illegal drug for some; others use it for medicine and rituals.
Over the weekend, Rio Grande City Border Patrol agents found two bags full of "peyote mushrooms" while responding to a report of illegal entry near Roma – it was sent over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
KRGV’s Angelo Vargas spoke with a family who has picked peyote for decades.
Johnny Morales explains peyote is a cactus used by Native Americans for ceremonial purposes.
He tells us they only sell the drug to Native Americans who have the proper permits to purchase it.
