First day of Early Voting wraps up after slow start

The first day of Early Voting for the November election came to a close on Monday.
There are two types of elections going on for this November election.
One of those is the special election involving the 14 state constitutional amendment and then there are general elections where cities here in Cameron County, including Los Fresnos and South Padre Island will have to choose a new mayor.
In Cameron County, people are coming out to the Brownsville Public Library.
"It's the only place I go. There's not much of a long line. I wish there was...I'd like to wait 20 to 30 minutes to vote." Brownsville resident James Gomez said.
Gomez says he's noticed a slow start to the first day of early voting. For him, showing up to vote for this year's election was important.
"Proposition 4, that's the one I'm looking at and the one about state parks," Gomez said.
Proposition 4 is all about homestead exemption. Voters will get to decide if they want to raise it from $40,000 to $100,000.
That's one of 14 constitutional amendments on ballots state-wide.
Other changes include funding for state parks, infrastructure and higher education.
"Most of them deal with issues that the legislature has identified that need to be resolved before they can take further action on them," Cameron County Elections Administrator Remi Garza said.
He says on top of those amendments, several school districts are also proposing changes to the tax rate.
Early Voting will go on until November 3 and the deadline to apply for mail-by-ballot is Friday, October 27. Election Day is on November 7.
