GAO Report Finds Feds Blindsided by Zero-Tolerance Policy
WESLACO – A report from the Government Accountability Office takes a look at what happened during the implementation of the zero-tolerance policy along the southern border.
The documents show the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Health and Human Services didn’t know about the policy until the day it was announced.
It details how several shelter and staffers were never told that a child had been separated from a parent, which led to many of them being mistakenly deemed “unaccompanied minors.”
KRGV’s Valerie Rodriguez has the details.
