Hidalgo Co. takes Steps to Protect Votes from Hackers
EDINBURG – Hidalgo County election officials are working with a federal agency to ensure every vote counts.
An Edinburg student tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS she made her morning trip to a polling location on the first day of Early Voting. However, she says her main concern was to know that her vote will not be zapped.
“I hope not but it’s possible, especially with the technology around right now,” says University of Texas Rio Grande Valley student Abbey Palomo.
KRGV’s Frank McCaffrey reached out to Hidalgo County election officials to ask what they’re doing to secure votes.
Hidalgo County Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramon says they’re in constant communication with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in an effort to avoid malware tainting any vote tally.
