Illegal Dumpsite that Caught Fire Cleaned Up
WESLACO - Officials have cleaned up an area where a large brush fire burned last Saturday. Ten acres were scorched in the fire near Mile 12 Road and F-M 1015 in rural Weslaco. The fire burned for hours, fueled by an illegal dump site.
Workers with Hidalgo County Irrigation District Number 9 spent their Saturday cleaning up the charred remains of the brush fire. Tattered tires and trash are among the items crews cleared from last week's fire scene. Officials will sort through the remains to determine how many tires helped fuel the fire.
Hidalgo County Irrigation District Number 9 plans to erect a cable system that would restrict access into the area. They believe this will help deter people who want to illegally dump their trash.
