Influx of Migrants Creating Unprotected Gaps Along Border

MISSION - The immigration surge in the Rio Grande Valley is creating unprotected gaps along the border due to agents tending to off-patrol duties.

Border Patrol agents are now having to fill out paperwork, drive the immigrants to bus stops, shelters, and hospitals.

Over 100 migrants were apprehended before noon Thursday and by the end of the day, the number multiplied to over 1,300.

The shortage of agents trying to control the surge of immigrants has become a daily battle for Border Patrol.

KRGV’s Christian Colón and Chief Photographer Mark Vecchio tagged along with agents to show what’s really happening on the border.
