Jurors in Health Care Fraud Trial of Valley Doctor to Resume Deliberations Tomorrow
MCALLEN – The jury in the trial of Dr. Jorge Zamora-Quezada were released Tuesday afternoon.
A juror needed to be excused. U.S. District Judge Ricardo Hinojosa granted the excuse and instructed the jury to return Wednesday morning to continue deliberations.
For nearly eight hours, the jury went over records presented in trial. Throughout the day, they sent four notes to the judge.
Hinojosa stated he would be absent Wednesday due to a prior engagement, but said U.S. District Judge Micaela Alvarez would be on standby in his place to hear a verdict, if produced.
Zamora-Quezada is accused of purposely misdiagnosing patients for his own financial gain. The doctor's wife and an officer employee are also charged in the case.
