Local Shelter for Unaccompanied Minors Captures National Attention

BROWNSVILLE – A local shelter for minors who entered the U.S. illegally is drawing national attention.

Experts say the crackdown on immigration is causing ripple effects as more people become aware of the situation.

Immigration Attorney Jaime Diez fears attorneys, federal courts and even shelters won’t keep up with the process.

The Brownsville shelter houses about 1,500 minors. At the site, they participate in different classes and physical activities.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out Southwest Key and the Department of Homeland Security for comment. We have yet to hear back.
