Man in Custody after Assaulting Border Patrol Agents

ROMA – A man is in custody for allegedly assaulting two Border Patrol agents near Roma.

Authorities said the agents were conducting a search near Roma after reports of a raft on the U.S. side of the river.

During the search, agents came across a group of people believed to be in the country illegally.

Authorities said the group fled on foot after agents identified themselves.

One agent was able to take ahold of one man, identified as Dublas Elexsander Cruz-Lopez. The agent attempted to arrest Cruz-Lopez, but the man became physically combative and refused to comply with the agent’s commands.

According to the criminal complaint, Cruz-Lopez swung his elbow and struck the agent in the neck while another agent tried to hold him down. Cruz-Lopez continued to resist and grabbed at the agent’s neck, and later kicked the other agent’s legs.

The agents were eventually able to handcuff the man and radio for assistance.

Cruz-Lopez was taken into custody and determined to be from Guatemala and in the country illegally.

The agents involved in the incident sought medical attention after the incident. It remains under investigation.
