Neighbors Speak Up after Trash Pile Left Behind for Months
LA FERIA - Residents are pleading for help after they say a trash pile sat for over a month; The Cameron County Department accused of ignoring their pleas.
A pile of over 50 garbage bags lay on the side of Michigan Street near La Feria.
One of the residents that live on this street, Bob Gardner, says the trash is unacceptable and just wants it cleaned up.
He says the garbage trucks pick-up green trash bins along the street, but leave the pile behind.
Gardner says he complained to the County Department of Health and Human Services over a month ago.
The Department of Health and Human Services placed a notice to abate on the property.
The Environmental Health Director, Gustavo Olivarez, tells us the case was delayed.
He says the case came into the office in late-March; they inspected it and sent a notice to the owners.
“Any time that we are unable to get a hold of someone, it creates a delay. The best scenario is knock on the door and someone comes out and issue the notice on the spot,” says Olivarez.
He tells us if someone doesn't respond in 30 days, the Environmental Department will have to file a case in court.
