Police Clear Scene after Chase with U-Haul in McAllen
MCALLEN – McAllen police is at the scene of a crash following a chase involving a U-Haul.
A U-Haul truck, carrying approximately 19 people who crossed the border illegally, drove through a fence and crashed on Jordan Road between 28th and 29th Streets in McAllen.
Authorities said they got a tip from someone who claimed he was held against his will at a home in Mission. Soon after, undercover officers began surveillance of the home.
Investigators said they saw the U-Haul truck leave the Mission residence early Monday. When officers attempted to pull over the vehicle without success, a chase ensued.
The driver attempted to flee on foot, but police said he was later apprehended.
The 19 people are currently in custody.
