Responding to News at Moment’s Notice
WESLACO – The Rio Grande Valley spans about 175 miles from east to west. CHANNEL 5 NEWS covers news from Falcon Lake to South Padre Island 24 hours a day, seven days a week, even when crews are on their days off.
It’s Friday, April 20. At around 3:30 a.m., Sergio Puente, a KRGV photographer, receives a call from a morning producer about a fatal crash north of Edinburg.
Puente gets to the scene as quick as possible and diligently records while crews clean up the scene.
He drives up to the McAllen bureau and feeds the video to KRGV’s main station in Weslaco.
By the time he arrives home, during our 4:30 a.m. newscast, he watches parts of what he captured in a span of about an hour.
For more on our crews’ work watch the video above.
