Reunifications of Immigrant Families Happening in the RGV
MCALLEN – More than 1,800 children, 5 years of age and older, were reunited with their parent or sponsors as of Friday morning.
However, their immigration journey isn’t over. They still have to prove their asylum case in weeks to come.
A father and son arrived in the Rio Grande Valley in April seeking asylum at a port of entry. They were separated by U.S. immigration authorities shortly after.
Catholic Charities is now helping families, like the Dominguez family, after being reunited on Wednesday at the Port Isabel Detention Center.
KRGV’s Carolina Cruz has more on how the organization plans to continue aiding hundreds of families at their facilities.
