Shrimp Business Affected by Boat Explosion
NEAR BROWNSVILLE – A boat owner says a vessel will remain underwater after it went up in flames and forced his crew to abandon ship over the weekend.
Dolby Linwood tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS although no injuries occurred, he was left with a $200,000 loss.
On average, two to three shrimping boats are lost at sea every year.
KRGV’s Daisy Martinez spoke with a Texas Shrimp Association representative who says the incident also represents a setback within their workforce.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
