South Texas ISD Superintendent Bittersweet about Retirement
MERCEDES – The superintendent of South Texas Independent School District is ending her career of 40 years.
Marla Guerra began her career as a teacher in Edinburg, went on to work at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD and worked the last 17 years as a superintendent.
"I always wanted to make a difference in the lives of students so that they in turn can give back to their communities,” says Guerra.
Throughout her career, she developed partnerships in the community, which paid off. South Texas is ranked first in the state and sixth in the nation.
"The next chapter in my life will be dedicated to my family – my husband, my children and grandchildren,” says Guerra.
KRGV’s Rick Diaz has the details on Con Mi Gente.
