Starr County teen continues recycling effort amid pandemic

A Starr County teenager’s mission to save the planet continues despite the coronavirus pandemic.

In February, CHANNEL 5 NEWS reported about Alma Pena’s effort to get recyclable items where they need to go. She started the Starr Project to get residents to recycle.

Since shelter-in-place order took effect, Pena hasn’t been able to make any visits to the McAllen Recycling Center.

However, to celebrate Earth Day, she planted a flower bed, a vegetable bed and took more than 20 bags of recyclables to the center.
