Surveillance Cameras in Place to Deter Illegal Dumping in Brownsville
BROWNSVILLE – Officials are resorting to high-quality surveillance cameras to deter illegal dumping in Brownsville.
Five cameras went up days ago in different spots around the city.
"I'm talking about once a week, someone would come and dump a construction pile or, you know, old building material, and it's right on the properties of people trying to raise family, raise small children. Not only is it an eyesore and nuisance, it's a health hazard,” says Commissioner Jessica Tetreau-Kalifa.
She says they identified five people seen in surveillance video already.
The cameras will be moved around to different problem areas as needed.
You can report problem areas in Brownsville by calling the city’s hotline at 956-546-4357.
