Suspected Smuggler Escapes After Multiple Crashes
DONNA - A suspected human smuggler rammed into a Donna police unit, hit two gates and crashed into a concrete barrier. Customs and Border Protection officials said the police officer wasn’t injured.
The incident happened Monday night. We’re told Border Patrol agents saw a driver on Military Highway pick up a person suspected to be in the country illegally.
The driver refused to stop and led agents on a chase toward the Donna port of entry. The driver hit the entrance gate, a second gate and concrete barrier before finally stopping. In the process, the driver also hit the Donna police unit. Border Patrol agents and Donna police chased the driver and passenger on foot, but the two fled to Mexico.
