Two individuals are in custody after a group of people were driving recklessly in the parking lot of the Mission Event Center on Sunday, according to police.
The group of people, some of who are minors, left behind tire marks throughout the parking lot. At least three more suspects have been identified, according to the Mission Police Department.
The event center used to be a hotspot for parking lot takeovers, according to Mission police spokesman Jorge Rodriguez.
“These type of events that are unlawful and are dangerous,” Rodriguez said. “Lately we didn't have that many issues, this case caught us by surprise."
A video uploaded to social media shows people running around with a street sign that had been taken off its bolts from the Mission Event Center parking lot. The sign has since been replaced.
It's not just police who are annoyed with the meetups.
“Late at night, we hear the cars that are doing donuts,” Veronica Flores said.
Flores says she and her family live near the event center, and she fears for her family’s safety.
The Mission Police Department says they plan to be more vigilant.
“We're gonna be safeguarding our community,” Rodriguez said.
The two individuals in custody were arrested on Thursday. Police say they and the other suspects they’re looking for are facing charges of vandalism, criminal mischief, and blocking a roadway or passageway.
Those with any information regarding the investigation or the location of the suspects are urged to call the Mission Police Department at 956-584-5000.
