USCIS Temporarily Shutdown at US Embassy in Cuba

WESLACO – Staff reduction at the U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba have led to a temporary shutdown of operations there by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

USCIS officials said in a statement in part:

“In regards to opening, according to U.S. Department of State policy, the total length of ordered departure for any location may not exceed 180 days. If and when the Cuban government is able to assure the safety of our diplomats in Cuba, the U.S. Department of State will reassess the operational status at the embassy, which in turn will enable USCIS to reassess its presence in Havana, Cuba.  We will provide additional information on the status of the Havana Field Office on our website as it becomes available.”
